"Abre mis ojos oh cristo...yo quiero verte" (MX mission trip)

Not only did we start leading MBSF (Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship) mid-semester, but we found out the wk. of the transitions that we were now in charge of taking the MBSF students on a mission trip to Mexico on their spring break (in March...only a few weeks away). The Lord took care of our every need on the trip. He blessed our travels to and from Reynosa, MX and we were truly grateful for the quality time we were able to spend one-on-one w/ the students who gave up their spring break to minister. It was a work trip primarily, and we painted inside and outside of a couple churches while in Reynosa. We worked with a sweet hearted missionary from TX named Bro. Gene, and ended up staying a couple of nights back across the border @ his home with him and his wife.
We had to overcome a LOT throughout the wk. as 3/4 of our students ended up with some version of a stomach bug and 2 other of our ladies had major 'foreign object in the eye' trauma. Let's just say that there was a LOT of sand flying around in the air due to the insanely high winds the first 3 days in MX. We stayed @ one of the churches that we painted throughout the wk. and the guys even toughed it out with open air only in their living quarters. The ladies surprisingly had air conditioning in ours. It was a little exhausting @ times playing coordinator, nurse, mom, cook, cleaning lady, etc....but we wouldn't have it ANY OTHER WAY!
We were also able to enjoy our evenings after long days of working on the church's projects. Some of our events included shopping in surrounding "more touristy" towns, seeing the various types of housing in Reynosa, eating out @ fun restaurants, and even riding go-carts/playing mini-golf @ a funzone (back across the border in TX one night w/ a local church group there). After several days of hard work, Patrick and I had planned a big surprise for the students on the trip home. We left the morning we were to head home and made a secret detour in San Antonio to give the students an enjoyable "vacation" day for their spring break. Patrick had previously booked a nice hotel for us all to stay in right next to the Alamo, and we enjoyed all of the sights and sounds of the riverwalk for an entire day and night in San Antonio. It was a fabulous break for everyone and a nice way to say "thank you" to the students who gave of their time to help us out on the trip.
I'll continue to post some of the HUNDREDS of pictures that each of us took on the trip as I stumble upon more. Several of our students have put their photos on discs for Patrick to have and to be able to add to our MBSF website.

"Abre mis ojos oh cristo...yo quiero verte." = "Open the eyes of my heart Lord...I want to see you."
